Melky had a poor 2008 season, resulting in a trip to Scranton. Once there, he worked his tail off, did very well and followed it up with a very good season of Winter Ball. He was one of the fall guys for the team not making the 2008 post season.

In 2009, Melky was on the bench for the first 3 weeks, and took advantage of the opportunity given him when Gardner failed miserably. Overall, Melky was good the entire 2009 season. He had a ton of clutch hits, 3 walk-offs, hit for the cycle one game, and ended up at .274, with 13 homers and 69 RBI’s. He also did very well in the post season–with 13 hits, batted around .280 and had 2 sacrifice bunts.

Gardner was zero for the World Series. In terms of Cano in 2009–he hit .320, had 200 plus hits, 25 homers, and 100 plus RBI’s. Melky must have really crimped Robbie’s production.
Cashman couldn’t wait to unload Melky and he didn’t deserve it. They even paid a half million of his salary to the Braves. They got a pile of garbage for him. Garbage that soon stunk to high heaven.

Melky had a poor season with the Braves. As poor as it was, he still hit higher than Granderson. Also, he had more RBI’s here in 2008 than Granderson had here last year. Gardner had a poor second half last year, and it appears he may be an injury prone kind of a guy. He was also hurt in 2008 and has been hurt in spring training again this year. Granderson was hurt last year and is now hurt again. He hasn’t reached .250 in the last two years and strikes out a ton. Dave Kingman used to hit home runs also, Big deal.

I like Melky because the Sabermetric guys hate him, and always have. They love—-Granderson, Gardner, Nick Johnson, Javy Vazquez, and now—Andy Jones.
I often disagree with what those guys think.
I wish Melky was here. He probably never will be again.
